Experts of the TIRAMISU project took part on the “NATO EOD Demonstrations & Trial 2012” event organised by the NATO’s Centre of Excellence for Explosive Ordnance Disposal in Slovakia
The NATO’s Centre of Excellence for Explosive Ordnance Disposal organised the conference “Detection as a unified effort of involved parties to defeat new emerging threats and protect human life and environment” on 18th September in Slovakia.
Experts in anti-personnel landmines and unexploded ordnance who are also partners in the TIRAMISU project participated during the conference which focused on areas such as the new emerging threats, terrorism and its impact on detection; the identification of potential future “Requirements on Detection Methods & Procedures & Technologies” resulting from Alliance operations and innovative ideas “out of the box” that address capability gaps, development and improvement of existing capabilities, among other areas.
Hence, the professor Lino Marques, from the Institute for Systems and Robotics of the University of Coimbra (Portugal), presented an overview of sensor technologies for close–in detection of explosive devices in the framework of the TIRAMISU project. Subsequently, the professor Andrzej Maslowski, from the Institute of Mathematical Machines from Poland will show the training systems for detection and neutralization of EOD with the use of an advanced mobile robotic platform.
Moreover, the audience was introduced to the importance of using appropriate test protocols when evaluating detectors with the help of Yann Yvinec, from the Belgian Royal Military Academy.
Milan Bajic, representative of the HCR Centre for testing, development, training Ltd. from Croatia put an end to this conference organised in the framework of the “NATO EOD Demonstrations & Trial 2012” event.
It is worth to mention that this event was celebrated for experts from the industry and military sector and counted with an agenda composed by conferences, demonstrations and trials in order to provide the NATO’s Centre of EOD with new ways of progress, especially via new research focused on EOD/IEEDD technology development.
