Successful participation of TIRAMISU in the 2015 EU Civil Protection Forum
The 5th European Civil Protection Forum took place in Brussels on 6 and 7 May 2015, featuring a conference as well as an indoor exhibition and outdoor live demonstrations.
The TIRAMISU FP7 research project, which aims to provide the Mine Action community with a toolbox to assist in addressing the many issues related to Humanitarian Demining, participated to the Forum by:
a) operating a stand in the indoor exhibition; and
b) demonstrating the capabilities of the TIRAMISU unmanned rotorcraft and the Teodor UGV, which was controlled by an innovative arm band at the two scheduled public demonstrations.
Despite the challenging weather conditions (10 m/s wind with strong gusts, sporadic rain), all systems worked perfectly, showcasing the capability of UAVs and UGVs in Humanitarian Demining and SAR operations.
Numerous stakeholders followed the demonstration, among them were Mr. Christos Stylianides, the European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management as well as many high-level EU staff members.
