TIRAMISU and ICARUS release video of joint Bosnia Herzegovina 2014 floods mission.
The TIRAMISU and ICARUS consortia have released a video showcasing their joint contribution to the assessment of the damage caused by the Bosnia-Herzegovina 2014 floods. The mission was deployed at the request of the Belgian First Aid and Support Team (B-FAST), with the purpose of identifying the most appropriate locations for the implementation of relief operations, through the use of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). Haris Balta, a Researcher from the Royal Military Academy of Belgium (RMA), used the Microdrone MD4-1000 quadrotor to assist the B-FAST team with tasks such as aerial inspection, mapping and dyke breach detection following its deployment in Bosnia-Herzegovina as part of the activation of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
As part of this mission, Mr Balta also assisted the Bosnia and Herzegovina Mine Action Centre (BHMAC) in detecting the possible locations of landmines and Explosive Remnants of War (ERWs) displaced by the landslides that had been caused by the floods, in order to mitigate the threat to the safety of civilians and rescue teams.
