TIRAMISU Consortium Members Undertake Pre-validation Tests on DOVO premises

TIRAMISU project partners, the Institute of Systems and Robotics at the University of Coimbra (ISR-UC), Ingegneria Dei Sistemi (IDS), VALLON, the Royal Military Academy of Belgium (RMA), the University of Catania (UNICT), DIALOGIS, PROTIME and the Institute for Environmental Management and Land Planning at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (IGEAT), carried out pre-validation tests on robotic devices at a minefield led by the Demining service at the Belgian Defence (DOVO), between the 14th and the 16th of July 2014. The tests were designed to challenge the capabilities of robots developed within the framework of the TIRAMISU project in mine detection and disposal.

The tests were carried out on the following devices; the Teodor robot developed by RMA and equipped with the Metal Detector Array designed by VALLON, the Husky robot of ISR-UC equipped with a VALLON Metal Detector, the GPR Array designed by IDS and mounted on a DOVO wheeled vehicle and the intelligent Prodder developed by UNICT. These tools have been developed in order to assist field staff in the safe detection and disposal of landmines, Explosive Remnants of War (ERWs) and Unexploded Ordnance (UXOs), in the domain of Humanitarian Demining.

Experienced personnel from the Demining Service of the Belgian Defense (DOVO) were present in order to ensure the trials were carried out safely.
