TIRAMISU presented in the workshop "Robotic Technologies for Humanitarian Landmine Detection" in Egypt
The Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology organised a workshop on “Robotic Technologies for Humanitarian Landmine Detection” in the City for Scientific Research and Technology Applications at New Borg El Arab (Alexandria) on 4th of June, 2013.
The workshop was held within the framework of the executive programme of scientific and technological cooperation between the Italian Republic and the Arab Republic of Egypt for the years 2013-2015.The bilateral project between E-JUST and the University of Catania, (one of the TIRAMISU partners) “Robot and innovative sensors for humanitarian Landmine detection” has been developed in order to encourage mutual cooperation through an international exchange programme between several researchers and students from the two countries.
The Italian General Counsellor, Mario Concetto Vinci joined the workshop and officially announced the cooperation activities between the two Universities. Prof. Abo-ismail and Prof. Muscato, members of the TIRAMISU project consortium, together with several E-JUST representatives, professors, and students held discussions on the use of robots for the detection of landmines.
Prof. Muscato presented TIRAMISU to the audience, outlining the benefits that the toolbox will bring to Egypt as the country still has several areas containing minefields, which have delayed the development of large areas of the country such as the western part of the desert of El-Alamein, used as a battlefield during the Second World War.
